Rene Evans, Staff Writer

Rene Evans is a senior at Piper High School. Evans participates in varsity baseball. This is his first year on staff as a staff writer.

Kevin Coker has been teaching in this district since 2017. This will be his ninth year teaching. He went to college at Fort Scott Community College, and transferred to Pittsburg State University. Coker teaches U.S. History and Strength and Conditioning. A fun fact about him is that Chris Brindle was his high school football coach. Now, Coker is a football coach as well.

Head coach Toure Grimes and assistant coach Gary Beashore walk off the court with Sophomore Tomar Bates. Bates is ranked 5th in the state of Kansas for the class of 2021.

The Pirates’ bench looks on as they run the clock out at the end of the game. Piper beat Gardner by a final score of 72-62.

The Pirates gather in a huddle late in the 3rd quarter. The Pirates would go on to beat Gardner for the second straight year.

Senior Brandan Jackson wins the tip off versus Gardner. This is his 4th year playing basketball at Piper, and 2nd year as a starter.
